The following operational update was sent to our families today:
Sadly, we were unable to celebrate this past weekend at our scheduled Opening Day ceremony. It’s been a few weeks since we updated you on our operations and outlook for the season. We hope you are all doing well, staying safe, and coping with the situation facing us all.
It is important to understand that we are dealing with three separate leagues (baseball, softball and Teener baseball) all with different governing bodies making different decisions regarding the season schedules. So, we at LSTAA are doing our best to deal with this situation as well as our own internal operations. The following is an update on some key items that you should be aware of at this point in time. Also, at the end of the email is a request that we are asking from you in order to help guide us in our future decision making.
- Baseball — The league has TENTATIVELY set May 18th as a possible time to resume practices with games not being scheduled prior to June 1.
- Softball — All league operations (practices and games) are on hold until June 1.
- Teener Baseball — The league hasn’t set an official date of resuming play, but they are looking “around Memorial Day” as a time to possibly start the season.
LSTAA Raffle. We will STILL proceed with a July drawing as previously announced. If you have any tickets and money to turn in, please contact your child’s manager OR email Secretary@lstaa.org to make arrangements on how you can turn this in ASAP to be entered into the raffle. Obviously, this raffle is important to the financial stability of our association during this time.
The above timelines are tentative scenarios and are not set in stone. Obviously, we—along with all the leagues—must monitor the government regulations and closure orders and will adjust accordingly.
The Leagues have asked us to survey you and ask if you’re still available to participate in baseball/softball activities in the months of June and July ASSUMING the following:
- The league governing boards approve a June/July restart.
- The state and local government allows for a restarting of outdoor recreational activities where groups may assemble.
- We at LSTAA are able to comply with the recommended safety procedures and precautions issued by the government.
- We have numbers of players to form teams.
Please note that we are doing everything we can to have some sort of season to offer our kids yet this year. And, the association body and its board are going to be discussing what safety measures and precautions need to be undertaken in order to pull off a restructured season this year. We will report on that more at a later time once we get a clear picture of when and if we’ll restart around June 1.
We, however, understand that some of you may not be able and willing to play this year under these circumstances and into the June/July timeframe. So, if that is the case, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your desires so we can know if adjustments to the teams, rosters, levels, etc. need to be made. Please consider doing this by May 5 for baseball and May 15 for softball because we need to report to the respective leagues of our revised participation numbers.
Finally, regarding refunds. We will NOT withhold your money if you choose not to play this year. You may either receive a refund OR you can apply your amount as a credit toward any fees this fall or spring of 2021. We would also appreciate any consideration of donating the fees as well because some costs were incurred for this season and can’t be undone. We will announce the process and deadlines for refunds at a later time.
These are tough times. We at LSTAA are not blind to what’s going on around us but are simply trying to be optimistic that we can provide some level of recreational opportunity to the kids in our community as we pull out of this COVID-19 situation. We want to be in a position to help you and your family “return to normal” whatever that may look like. We ask for your patience with us as we make decisions that no one dreamed we would have to make just a few short months ago.
Thank you for being part of the LSTAA family. We look forward to the days when our fields are full again, playing baseball/softball, and seeing you all celebrate our kids.
